Our Story
Founded by former Uber engineers Debo Ray and Rob Fletcher, DevZero began with a vision to redefine the cloud through flexible, containerized infrastructure. At Uber, Debo led pioneering projects that exposed the pain points of running microservices at massive scale. These challenges illuminated the need for a radically more efficient developer experience—one that balanced speed, reliability, and security without adding operational burden.
“We saw how slow software delivery held back innovation,” recalls Debo. “To fix it, we refined CI pipelines, adopted monorepos, and optimized code merges and container builds. We wanted to free engineers from cumbersome setup so they could simply spin up the environments, databases, and integrations they needed, on demand.”
A major breakthrough was specialized tooling. The team introduced Local Developer Analytics (LDA) to pinpoint workflow bottlenecks, boosted IDE responsiveness, and built platforms like Cerberus and Bits to streamline microservice interactions. Their crowning achievement was Devpod—a secure, remote environment that ran in the cloud while staying tightly integrated with local IDEs.
